Tottenham are considering accelerating a move for a forward this month following Mohammed Kudus’ injury blow.
Spurs, who have looked increasingly toothless in recent weeks and drew chants of ‘boring, boring Tottenham’ from their own fans in a stalemate against Brentford last week, may take advantage of the January transfer window, especially in light of Kudus’ latest issue.
The 25-year-old limped off against Sunderland in their 1-1 draw on Sunday and scans revealed the injury is worse than the club had initially thought.
It is a thigh injury that will keep him out for a number of games, though a timeline of his possible return has not yet been communicated.
Spurs were already light in forward areas due to long term injuries to Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke.
Brennan Johnson has been sold to Crystal Palace for £35million and ahead of the game against Bournemouth on Wednesday, Frank admitted he could do with more.
Thomas Frank could step up the transfer hunt for a forward after Mohammed Kudus’ injury
He said: ‘I think it’s pretty fair to say that we are maybe a little bit short on offensive options.’
The Dane added that Solanke will be back in the ‘near future’ but expects to wait a while before the striker is fully up to speed given his six months on the sideline.
Spurs held an interest in Antoine Semenyo, but he appears set to join Manchester City.
If City secure Semenyo, it could revive Tottenham’s interest in Savinho, who has signed a new contract but remains on the fringes of the team with only four Premier League starts this season.
RB Leipzig’s teenage winger Yan Diomande, currently at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Ivory Coast, is another exciting talent they have interest in.
There is also interest in attacking midfielder Maghnes Akliouche of Monaco. He was on the Spurs list of options in the summer and excelled against them in the Champions League.
Turkish 20-year-old Kenan Yildiz of Juventus is another who has impressed Tottenham but they would face stiff competition for him if the Turin club decided to sell.
