Cristiano Ronaldo ‘set to ABANDON his dream retirement villa project’ – after spending £30m and four years on it – but could host his wedding there

Cristiano Ronaldo could abandon his dream retirement villa after spending around £30million on it, according to reports.

The 40-year-old purchased a large plot of land in the Quinta da Marinha region of Cascais, Portugal, in September 2022 in a move thought to be with the aim of settling down in the villa with his family when he hangs up his boots.

Despite works now being completed to the eight-bedroom mansion, which boasts an infinity pool, underground car park and private cinema room, it has been said that Ronaldo may surprisingly now sell up.

According to Portuguese TV programme V+ Fama, Ronaldo could host his wedding to Georgina Rodriguez at the property – in what would be another shock twist – before offloading it.

It is claimed that Ronaldo is concerned over the lack of privacy afforded to him at the property constructed in the exclusive coastal resort known as the ‘Portuguese Riviera’.

The Al-Nassr forward is said to have sought a purchase of the adjacent plot of land belonging to five-star hotel The Oitavos in a bid to increase his security, as well as the gold course next door, but these were refused.

This has now reportedly led to him looking to abandon the four-year project. However, it could still host his wedding to fiancée Georgina, who he proposed to in August after more than nine years together.

It was thought that Ronaldo may look to tie the knot with the Argentinian-Spanish model after the 2026 World Cup in Funchal Cathedral, with their reception to be hosted at a lavish nearby hotel.

But V+ Fama claim the £30million home could be used as a more intimate and private venue for the pair to conduct the ceremony.

Should Ronaldo give it the green light, the party could serve as a wedding event, a housewarming, and a farewell party all at the same time.

The mansion features smart heating, a gym, indoor and outdoor pools, a massage room, a playground area for his five children and their very own private beach. It also boasts solid gold taps, Italian marble, and a specially designed Louis Vuitton mural.

It is the latest in Ronaldo’s sprawling property empire, which consists of a £6million penthouse in Lisbon and a home in his native Madeira. He has also kept his mansion in the exclusive La Finca neighbourhood of Madrid and a luxury villa in Turin in Italy from his time at Juventus, among others.

The former Real Madrid, Man United and Juventus striker recently opened up on his ‘not very romantic’ and improvised proposal, albeit complete with a £1.5million ring, suggesting the party will be equally as impressive.

‘It was like 1am. My daughters were in bed sleeping,’ he told Piers Morgan.

‘One of my friends gave me the ring to offer Gio (Georgina) and as I was giving her the ring, my two kids come in and say “Daddy, you’re going to give the ring to mum and you’re going to ask her to get married.”

‘I said, “Wow, this is the right moment to say yes.” It was the time. I knew that I was going to do it one day but I hadn’t planned to do it then.

‘Because my daughters said that and my friends were filming, it was what I wanted and I offered (the ring). I didn’t (get on one knee) because I wasn’t prepared but it was a beautiful moment. I made a speech.

‘It was simple, I’m not a very romantic guy. Well, I am, but I’m not very romantic, not the kind of guy who brings flowers every week to the home. But I’m romantic in my way. It was beautiful and I knew that it’s the woman of my life so I did that and I hope that I did it well.’

Two of Ronaldo’s, Alana Martin and Bella Esmeralda, are with Georgina. His eldest child, Cristiano Jr, was born in 2010 before he was with her, while he had two more kids, Eva and Mateo, via surrogacy in 2017. In 2022 they dealt with the tragic death of their newborn son Angel.

The footballing legend and his model fiancee are thought to have struck up their relationship in 2016, while he was at Madrid, and began work on the Portuguese villa around six years later.

‘We plan to do [the wedding] after the World Cup with the trophy,’ he told Morgan. ‘But she is not the person that likes big parties. She doesn’t like it. She likes private things. So I will respect these decisions.

‘One thing that I love, she didn’t care about the ring. She asked me if I was honest and I said, “I want you and I want to marry you.” I didn’t cry but I had tears on my eyes.’
