Jamie Carragher offered a light hearted dig at Gary Lineker‘s podcast after the former Match of the Day presenter recently secured a lucrative Netflix deal.
The Daily Mail exclusively revealed in November that Lineker had agreed ‘an extraordinarily lucrative’ deal with the streaming service.
The deal will see Lineker host his The Rest Is Football podcast for the platform during next summer’s World Cup.
Reports last month claimed Lineker’s production company Goalhanger could make £14m from the deal, working out at more than £2m a week.
It would dwarf the £1.35m annual salary Lineker received for presenting Match of the Day which made him the BBC‘s highest earner.
Lineker is set to present the podcast with Alan Shearer and Micah Richards from a New York studio and it will include reports from inside the England camp and fan zones.
Jamie Carragher jokingly claimed that ‘no-one listen to’ Gary Lineker’s podcast, with the light-hearted comment coming at the expense of his fellow pundit Micah Richards

The lucrative deal was highlighted on CBS’ Champions League coverage on Tuesday night, with Richards joining Carragher, Thierry Henry and host Kate Abdo.
CBS reporter Anita Jones raised the topic when reporting from Milan, jokingly suggesting Richards’ pay day could assist her to purchase something from one of the Italian city’s shops.
‘I am hoping Micah you are going to send me some of that Netflix money,’ Jones quipped.
‘What is this,’ Carragher said, turning towards Richards.
‘Just the number one pod in the UK,’ Richards replied.
‘Oh that’s what it is,’ Carragher said. ‘The Netflix deal for the podcast that no-one listens to.
‘Honestly, I don’t know anyone that listens to it.’
The light-hearted remark, which prompted laughter from Richards, comes with former Liverpool star Carragher featuring among the regulars on rival podcast ‘Stick to Football’.
Carragher is a regular on rival podcast ‘Stick to Football’, part of Gary Neville’s ‘The Overlap’ which recently agreed a major deal with radio giants Global
The weekly podcast, broadcasted on YouTube, features Carragher, Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Jill Scott.
It is the flagship show of Neville’s firm ‘The Overlap’, which has itself been involved in a major deal in recent weeks.
Earlier this month it was announced that radio giants Global – the owner of stations such as Classic FM, Capital, LBC and Heart – had acquired a majority stake from previous investors Miroma Group.
Neville had announced the aim of becoming a ‘world-leading football and sports media platform’ following confirmation of the deal earlier this month.
‘The Overlap started as an idea that we thought people might like and we went for it,’ said Neville.
‘What has happened since then has been a great journey and it’s a team that I love working with and I’m incredibly proud to be a part of. We never thought of it as a business, we just wanted to create something that people loved and would come back to watch every week.
‘We see huge growth potential for The Overlap and have spent the last few months in a strategic investment process and are delighted to have found the perfect partner in Global to power us forward and create “The Overlap Network” with the aim of becoming a world-leading football and sports media platform.’
