Brighton launch improved bid for highly-rated Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic after selling Jan Paul van Hecke to Spurs in £52m move: TRANSFER WINDOW WATCH

Brighton have made an improved offer for Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic worth up to £45million including add-ons.

Brighton need to add centre backs to their squad and have also opened talks for 27-year-old Austrian Michael Svoboda of Venezia as they look to bolster defensive options.

They have made two previous bids for Croatia international Vuskovic worth up to £35m and he is open to linking up with manager Fabian Hurzeler for the chance of regular Premier League football.

The bid is understood to be £42m plus £3m in add-ons but is still short of Spurs’ valuation.

Brighton allowed Adam Webster to leave this summer following the end of his contract and sold Jan Paul van Hecke for £52m to Tottenham at the start of this week.

The Netherlands international had one year left on contract.

Vuskovic was on loan at Hamburg last season and wants to continue playing regularly.

He has been capped six times for the senior team, starting in their opening defeat by England, and is under contract until 2030.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are looking to add more players with talks ongoing over Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes.

They have no plans to sell Micky van de Ven despite tentative interest from Barcelona and Liverpool and will not be pursuing a move for Marseille forward Mason Greenwood.
