Elliot Anderson is edging closer to a British record move to Manchester City with further talks planned in the next 24 hours.
Nottingham Forest have already rejected two offers for the England midfielder and have been holding out for a total package worth close to £130million, which would make Anderson one of the most expensive players in history.
Daily Mail Sport understands that the clubs are now due to hold further discussions which, if successful, could see the deal completed.
The total could outstrip Alexander Isak’s £125m transfer to Liverpool last summer, while Anderson’s international midfield partner Declan Rice became the most expensive British player of all time when Arsenal splashed £105m on him three years ago.
While Manchester United have also wanted to sign Anderson, he has long headed the list of City midfield targets once it became clear last year that captain Bernardo Silva was to see out his contract and leave on a free transfer.

Signing the 23-year-old would represent a statement by City as they gear up for a post-Pep Guardiola world.
Anderson is seen as exactly the profile of midfielder who can flourish in the positional style preferred by Enzo Maresca, who is set to succeed Guardiola on a three-year deal after discussions over compensation with his former club Chelsea.
Forest signed Anderson from Newcastle for a net £15m two years ago, with their reserve goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos heading the other way.
Newcastle never wanted to let their homegrown star leave but needed to do so to comply with Premier League financial rules.
Since moving to the City Ground Anderson has become one of the best midfielders in the country.
