Americans left divided as USMNT unveils bold new kits for the World Cup

With less than 100 days until the World Cup kicks off in the United States, Mexico and Canada, the US men’s national team has released their kits.

Dubbed the ‘Stripes’ Kit and the ‘Stars’ Kit, the two bold designs were created thanks to direct influence from the USMNT athletes themselves.

After players previously objected to the designs of the kits in the last World Cup cycle, they included their input for the design of the 2026 uniforms.

‘Through a series of design workshops and listening sessions, USMNT players provided input on everything from fabric weight to seam placement,’ a press release from US Soccer read.

‘Players also provided feedback on fit, mobility and breathability, helping Nike create jerseys built to perform in the high-intensity conditions expected during the summer World Cup.’

The ‘Stripes’ Kit features waving red and white bands across the shirt which evoke a 1994 World Cup kit as well as the fan-favorite ‘Waldo’ Kit from 2012. Meanwhile, the ‘Stars’ Kit is a navy effort with sublimated stars and subtle red accents.

But fans were left unimpressed when they realized the back of the ‘Stripes’ Kit was left all-white to make room for the nameplate.

‘Of course the design is perfect in the front and an absolute s**t show in the back,’ wrote one user on X.

Another said, ‘The huge blank space on the back looks so bad. I’ll be getting one with a name and number so hopefully it doesn’t look as bad because the front looks so good.’

One user joked, ‘Did the printer run out of ink?’

But others fell in love with the kits at first sight: ‘That home kit is a HEATER,’ wrote one user.

‘Looks clean, yep,’ said another user.

Another comment read, ‘This gonna be the summer fit for the next 4 years.’
