Aston Villa officials flew to Istanbul on Monday in an attempt to seal a move for Besiktas striker Tammy Abraham.
Daily Mail Sport understands Villa transfer chief Roberto Olabe attended Besiktas’ 1-0 win over Kayserispor, with Abraham playing all but the final few seconds of the Super Lig encounter.
Olabe and at least one other Villa representative are believed to held talks with Abraham’s team and Besiktas chiefs as they try to find a way to bring the 28-year-old back to Villa Park, where he spent a successful loan spell in 2018-19.
Currently on loan from Roma, Abraham would like to rejoin Villa but Besiktas are currently unwilling to let him go.
Abraham has scored seven goals this season and Besiktas are currently fifth in the table, 11 points below leaders Galatasaray.
Aston Villa officials travelled to Turkey to attempt to broker a deal for Tammy Abraham
They watched Abraham feature on Monday for Besiktas, who are currently unwilling to end the forward’s loan spell at the club
It is thought Villa would be willing to allow players, such as Evann Guessand or even Leon Bailey, to move in the opposite direction but the arrangement is complicated as it involves three clubs – Villa, Besiktas and Roma.
Besiktas have an obligation to buy Abraham for £11m, so the loan deal with Roma would have to be cancelled early, or Besiktas buy him from Roma before selling him immediately to Villa.
