Last remaining Man United ‘bomb squad’ member offered transfer lifeline – with 48-hour countdown to clinch Old Trafford escape

The final remaining member of Manchester United‘s infamous bomb squad has been handed a transfer lifeline as he faces a race against the clock to secure a move away from the club.

Ruben Amorim essentially placed five players on the club’s transfer list at the start of the summer, telling them to find moves away from the club or face not playing football in the upcoming season.

United managed to offload all but one of the five players who were in the squad, who were also training separately. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Anthony, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia were told to leave.

While Sancho and Rashford went to Aston Villa and Barcelona respectively on loan, Garnacho joined Chelsea on a permanent deal. Anthony joined Real Betis permanently too.

Malacia, meanwhile, has continued to train alone at Old Trafford unless he can secure a move to Turkey before their transfer window closes on September 12. He saw a loan move to Spanish side Elche collapse on deadline day.

Now, though, the defender is of interest to anther club, with just 48 hours remaining for him to secure an exit, whether that’s on a permanent or temporary basis.

According to The Sun, Turkish Super Lig side Eyupsport have made contact with United about a season-long loan deal for the full back.

It would spell the very end for Malacia’s time at United, having joined from Feyenoord in 2022. His contract is up at the end of this season.

He has made 47 appearances for the club, with most of those coming in his first season under Erik ten Hag. He was the Dutchman’s first signing in charge and cost £14.6million.

It’s not the first time the extended Turkish window has done United a favour, with out-of-favour goalkeeper Andre Onana also agreeing to join Trabzonspor on loan.

It has been a somewhat brutal season from a United point of view, with the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Victor Lindelof also leaving.

The clear out, though, according to club legend Rio Ferdinand, needed to happen.

‘The squad is the most important thing,’ Ferdinand said on Rio Ferdinand Presents. ‘Keeping the harmony and ambience in the squad is the be-all and end-all if you’re going to make strides to be a more positive football club, where you aren’t going to have those distractions around.

‘The last thing anyone needs is Garnacho, Rashford, Sancho, Antony, etc being around the place and having to train separately. There’s always going to be an undercurrent of a negative story hanging around the place if they stayed. So I think it’s good for everybody that they’ve got out.’
