Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Altay Bayindir will retain his place in goal for Manchester United‘s derby clash with Manchester City on Sunday.
The Turkish goalkeeper has started all three of United’s Premier League games this season, but his position as No.1 is deemed under threat after United’s deadline day £21.7million signing of Senne Lammens.
With Andre Onana now having moved to Trabzonspor on a season-long loan, the battle to become Amorim’s first-choice goalkeeper is between Bayindir and Lammens.
United are yet to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League this season, conceding four goals and picking up four points with Bayindir in goal, and many anticipated that the arrival of the 23-year-old from Royal Antwerp would see the Turkish goalkeeper drop down in the pecking order.
However, it appears the Belgian shot-stopper will have to bide his time before he is thrown into the action.
‘Altay is going to continue,’ said Amorim. ‘It’s a difficult league, country and training, they will fight for the position. For me, this game is clear, Altay will start. I believe in Altay and he is ready to play.’

Deadline day £21.7m signing Senne Lammens will have to bide his time before starting
Ruben Amorim has claimed that Bayindir and Lammens ‘will fight for the position’ to be No.1
Despite putting his confidence in Bayindir to stay between the sticks, Amorim has expressed his delight at the signing of Lammens
‘I’m pleased, he’s a goalkeeper with a lot of potential. I know that we are in the moment that the goalkeeper needs to be really strong and have a lot of experience.
‘But we are also in the moment that we have to look at the present, but also with a focus on the future. So it’s a little bit both. A guy with a great potential, that is one more option to play, and we’ll be ready.’
More to follow.
