Former Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner leads race to take over at Nottingham Forest – with Vitor Pereira set for the exit door

Oliver Glasner is among the leading contenders to be Nottingham Forest’s next boss with Vitor Pereira edging closer to the exit door.

Pereira was Forest’s fourth manager last season and kept them in the Premier League but Daily Mail Sport understands he may now be replaced by former Crystal Palace coach Glasner.

With a year still left on his contract at the City Ground, Pereira was expected to have talks over a new one after his success in helping retain Forest’s top-flight status. But unless there is another dramatic change of direction, Glasner looks in a strong position to be the club’s next head coach.

Glasner was a strong candidate to move to the City Ground in December 2023 when Steve Cooper departed, but on that occasion the club chose to hire Nuno Espirito Santo. The Austrian is currently without a club having left Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

If ever Glasner were to move to Forest, it is unlikely to be well-received by Palace fans. There is little love lost between the clubs after Forest replaced Palace in last season’s Europa League. UEFA ruled that because American businessman John Textor had influence over both Palace and Lyon, they could not compete in the same European competition. Palace were demoted to the Conference League, to Forest’s benefit.

Pereira signed a new three-year contract at Wolves in September 2025, only to be sacked in November after an appalling start to the season that sent the club hurtling towards relegation.

As well as Al-Hilal, Pereira is understood to be attracting interest from other clubs, who admired his work at the City Ground.

Forest are the 14th club the 57-year-old has coached at senior level. He has worked in eight different countries.

Glasner was high on AC Milan’s list to replace Massimiliano Allegri at the end of last season but the clubs could not reach an agreement.

He is thought to have a good relationship with technical director George Syrianos, who is believed to have recommended Glasner two and a half years ago when Nuno was given the nod.
