Got nowhere better to be Harry? England World Cup reject Maguire sells packs of Panini stickers in New York after being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s squad

Harry Maguire has been spotted selling football stickers in New York after getting dropped from the England World Cup squad.

The Manchester United centre-back, 33, was filmed speaking to fans from inside a Panini football van at the Rockefeller Centre yesterday.

His appearance in the Big Apple is believed to be part of a Panini stickers World Cup promotional event, following him being cut from Thomas Tuchel‘s 26-man tournament squad.

Two young fans could not believe their eyes as they spotted the footballer handing out sticker packs in the US – as one youngster said ‘what is Harry Maguire doing here,’ before getting a picture with the star.

During his trip to New York, Maguire also met up with Red Devil supporters at the Long Acre bar, near Times Square, made a special appearance on Gary Lineker‘s The Rest is Football podcast and even enjoyed a round of golf.

On the podcast Lineker left the England stalwart red in the face when he praised Tuchel on his decision-making during the 4-2 win against Croatia on June 17.

The former Match of the Day host said: ‘Did it start to make sense, the way England played today, perhaps some of the people who have been omitted?’

However Lineker realised the question may have been a little harsh to ask in front of Maguire and quickly added: ‘with one exception.’

The accidental joke comes after Maguire had an awkward FaceTime call with Tuchel who told him he had been left out of the England World Cup squad.

Speaking on the podcast, Maguire said Tuchel had ‘gone with the four lads who got him through the qualifying. But he did say that he can’t really give me an excuse.’

The defender was left heartbroken after the decision was made that he wouldn’t be on the pitch with his fellow countrymen this summer.

He said: ‘I was confident I could have played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had.

‘I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision. I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years. I wish the players all the best this summer.’

Tuchel instead chose Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Jarell Quansah, Dan Burn and John Stones as his centre backs.

Maguire’s furious mother also waded in on her son’s axing from the squad.

She said: ‘You couldn’t have done anymore. Hold your head high… Disgraceful. Disgusted.’

But Maguire is not the only shock omission from the World Cup squad this tournament.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer have also been axed, while left backs Lewis Hall, of Newcastle, and Manchester United ’s Luke Shaw have both been left out.

A surprising addition to the squad was Ivan Toney, given the Al-Ahli striker has played just three minutes under Tuchel and has not been in a squad since last June.

England will next play against Ghana at the Boston Stadium on Tuesday June 23.
