Wolves and Celtic are looking at Austrian goalkeeper Nikolas Polster.
The 23-year-old is regarded as one of his country’s brightest prospects and has been capped at U21 level but his club Wolfsberger have struggled this season and face the prospect of relegation from the Austrian Bundesliga.
That could lead to Polster’s departure as he looks to continue playing regularly in a top league.
Polster won the Austrian Cup with Wolfsberger in 2025 to cap another fine season where he was named goalkeeper of the year. He has been compared in style to Bayern Munich‘s Manuel Neuer and Jan Oblak of Atletico and has aspirations of following their career path.
Brighton and Brentford have also had scouts following his performances earlier in the season while French side St Etienne have maintained interest throughout the campaign.
Wolves and Celtic face a summer of transition. The Molineux club expect a number of players to leave with plenty of interest in Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone.
Nikolas Polster has attracted admirers from clubs in England and Scotland
And Polster, who may yet be called up to Ralf Rangnick’s World Cup squad, has emerged as a player who could fit within their respective budgets.
Wolves manager Rob Edwards admitted at the weekend that they will lose some of their best players this summer following relegation from the Premier League.
Forward Mateus Mane has many admirers while midfielders Joao Gomes and Andre have been attracting interest from Napoli and Premier League rivals. Defender Ladislav Krejci is a target for Leeds United also. And Edwards said: ‘We’ve got some good individual players.
‘I know there’s going to be interest and some of them are going to leave and, if they do, it has to be right for the football club as well as the individual.
‘We’ve lost really talented players in the past and it’s making sure we’re really good in the market so that, when we do lose some of our good players, we’re bringing in some really good ones.’
